Obama, our CIVIL Ass Kicker and Chief

by Chris | January 13th, 2011

Why does it seem like the Tucson massacre has turned into an opportunity for people on the left and right to point fingers at each other?  Because this time the conservatives not only defended themselves before a disingenuous liberal media, but conservatives, knowing that the liberal media would again take a tragedy as an opportunity to score political points, took the offense.

For decades the liberals have used media and tragedy as a double edged sword against their enemies … conservative citizens.

This time we didn’t wait for the baseless attack, rather as the facts came out indicating that this deranged man was not in any way conservative we simply highlighted those facts.

Then on Wednesday the savior Obama ascends his pulpit and beseeches us all to reach for the higher ground, to be our best selves, to engage in civil dialogue.

I assume that being a true leader, Obama will soon repent from his sins of the past … that he will recant his dedication to “defeat his enemies” and that he will forgo his desire to determine “whose ass to kick!”

No, I’m not fooled.  While his eloquent words contained much truth the orator himself personifies his own condemnation.

  43. “For decades the liberals have used media and tragedy as a double edged sword against their enemies … conservative citizens.”

Yes, this strategy is quite unlike the GOP labeling those who opposed Bush foreign policy after 9/11 as “unpatriotic”….give me a break.

Each party uses whatever weapon that they have at their disposal to destroy their enemy. Unfortunately it is the usually the average American who gets caught in the crossfire.

    • Matt I agree with you. That is one of the problems … politicians are not seeking the best interests of this nation and her citizens, but rather their own benefit.

      • Thanks for the reply.
Personally, I think the problem is more related to the fact that the extreme left and extreme right have highjacked the political discourse in this country so that the middle, which is the vast majority of Americans, feel as if they no longer have a voice.

This is evident in the vitriol that is spewed on both CNBC and Fox News, and in websites such as this, where the president of the United States of America is mockingly referred to as a “savior”, “pot smoking loaders” are classified as liberals, and copious amounts of name-calling, slander and downright meanness are peddled without a second thought.

The key to restoring America, in my opinion, is uniting the middle, not trying to divide them by throwing around vitriol such as this and forcing them to side with the lesser of two evils. One can stand for their principles without having to stoop to this level. If one’s principles cannot stand on their own merit, minus the mean-spiritedness and name-calling directed towards their opponents, then one’s principles are not worth standing for.

I admire your passion for individual freedom, but I don’t agree that name-calling and mean-spiritedness are the best manner with which to communicate this passion.

        • Matt it’s funny … people don’t seem to have a problem when liberals engage in name calling, or even reputation destruction, but when conservatives express themselves using humor (i.e. the “savior” reference) people think, “now that’s too far.”

There is an obvious double standard when the liberal media is given a pass on this issue and conservatives are called “mean-spirited”

As conservatives we will no longer give the liberals the easy victory on the national discourse. They can not simply wave us on by calling us “closed-minded” or “mean-spirited” or “racist” which are a few of their favorite ones.

It is liberals who lack tolerance for any point of view other than their own, Liberals who engage in vitriolic rhetoric, and Liberals who’s policies are racist … and I can back all that “name-calling” up with facts!

          • I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the double-standards related to liberal media bias. They regularly bashed and battered GW Bush during his presidency, yet bristle when a similar tone is taken with their president Obama.

The ultimate point that I was trying to make is that we need to get beyond the hateful rhetoric, the mean-spirited mocking, and the slander that detracts from the mission at hand, which is to strengthen this nation. This distracting dialogue between the liberals and conservatives in this country, one which is charged with hate and spite and vitriol, has people more concerned with picking sides than with finding a way to come together. The only people who benefit from these tactics are the media (see the rise of FOX News and MSNBC in the past decade), who wield it as a hammer to manipulate our national conversation, and thus, our national conscience.

From this perspective, I think that the tea party is failing to properly discern the political mood in this country. Yes, the fringe on both sides, liberal and conservative, bark and howl and hiss loudly, but the people in the middle, the vast majority, are ready for a path that unites, not one that divides. Obama had a chance and he blew it. You state that “as conservatives we will no longer give the liberals the easy victory on the national discourse.” By stooping to their level, this is exactly what you are doing. An independent party has no chance unless they take the high road and rise above the hateful rhetoric.

This is what the people are looking for.
