Please read and forward this email to anyone you know who may attend the Health Care Town Hall this Saturday.  I’m making the following comments as a result of information and insight I gained from a conversation I had with a friend who’s in a position to advise us.

First I want to make it clear that this Town Hall is being hosted by Rep. Buck McKeon, not the SCV Tea Party.  We’ve all seen similar meetings being coordinated by other politicians that have received a fair amount of bad press.  I want to ensure that we do all we can to mitigate the potential for bad press and to maximize our voice to our government.

Rep. McKeon is clearly one of the more conservative elected officials in California; as such we should be respectful but also make our position clear.  As President Regan said so eloquently, “Government is not the solution, it is the problem.”

It is the responsibility of this generation to sustain the work of our Founding Fathers, in order to do that we need to change our political paradigm.  Our battle is not simply a left vs. right or Republican vs. Democrat fight.  Most of us have not taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic, yet we find ourselves forced to do that because many of our politicians both Republican and Democrat refuse to do it.  In fact, many of our politicians have not only refused to defend our Constitution, they have become “domestic enemies” of our Constitution.

I think the enemies of our Constitution would love nothing less than to put us in a negative light, or to reinforce the existing false image of Tea Party members.  So in order to make sure your voice is heard without creating bad press:

·         Act and speak with both passion and wisdom.

·         Don’t express your 2nd Amendment right by wearing an exposed weapon.

·         When you ask questions, be solution oriented rather than simply venting.

·         Don’t let someone bait you into a confrontation.

·         Be respectful of other’s with differing opinions.

·         Be aware that there may be individuals attending pretending to be members of our Tea Party who are not members of the Tea Party attempting to create a disturbance.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

  46. Why are they trying to rush this health care bill through. I don’t think anyone thinks that health care does not need to be reformed. They just need to do this the right way. Get the party politics out of it and do the right thing for the people. It doesn’t have to be this way.

  47. I was sitting near the press side at the townhall. Anyone who was there knows the aides did not select the questioners; the Congressman did. Yet I witnessed someone with a press pass actually trying to direct one of McKeon’s aides (one of those with a mic) to a specific person among the dozens with hands raised. Someone identified the reporter to me as Brian Charles. Where does the press get off trying to direct the event?

  48. Thanks scvteaparty for showing some of the best comments. The story in the Signal today was so biased to those that want the public option it was hard for me to believe I attended the same meeting. It appeared to me that the true author of the story was Bruce McFarland, not Brian Charles as the by-line showed. I observed Bruce taking photographs and interviewing those who support nationalized health care, and avoiding those opposed. Of course Bruce’s leadership of the Democratic Alliance for Action I’m sure played no role in the bias (ha-ha-ha). He just happened to run into a DAA member to interview.

  49. Hi, scvteaparty.com – da best. Keep it going!
